The carbon tax wont go to renewables, it's a lame attempt for labor to get into surplus after all their tax and spend stupidity. It will just pay for more layers of useless bureaucracy, fund the NBN and piss money away to corrupt third world shitholes.

Basically a bunch of international socialists distancing regular working people from the basic requirements like owning their own homes.

If you want to take the peak oil argument. It's a technological problem not a political one.

I invest in the ASX and over the past decade I am have seen real dollar term depletion of the profitability of the major players like Fairfax especially.
