This is footage of Chinook salmon, steelhead smolts and Sacramento tulle perch that I took at work while diving in the Russian River (Sonoma county, CA).

  • what kind of work do you do exactly? seems like a pretty cool job. marine biologist?

  • I am a freshwater fisheries technician. I work for the Sonoma County Water Agency collecting data on the fish populations in the Russian River. I do beach seine (net) surveys, collect water quality data, operate fish traps, I do dive surveys, redd (salmon nest) surveys from a kayak, review fish videos for our fish ladder camera system...

  • im still in higschool but im thinking about going to Santa Cruz or Monterey for college to study marine biology

  • I don't know about Marine bio, but HSU has a good marine fisheries program. I studied Freshwater fisheries there.

  • I want a job like this!! I never should have studied accounting.. I'm a outdoor guy.

    What HSU?

  • HSU stands for Humboldt State University. It has a good fisheries program.

  • Amazing! The music adds a nice touch to your video. Your wetsuit looks very thin. Is the water in the Russian river extremely cold or of warmer temperature?

  • Its funny you say you went o HSU because my girlfriend got provisionally accepted into HSU and is she passes her classes we will be moving up there.

  • Wow, Ive always wanted a job like this, Is there anyway i can get your email so we can shoot emails back and forth i want to know how to get started into something like this. Ive been fishing since i came out of the womb, I absolutely love it. I want to learn about fish and how to protect them, It concerns me with all pollution and dams that are being built. Ive looking into forestry and park ranger but this seems far more interesting and fun. Please let me know if you can help :)

    Thank you

  • thats fucking awesome

  • RESPECT.

  • Sonoma County
