Private schools do not have better teachers. You can take any teacher from a private school. I an certain that they would not last a day in an urban public school. Not a charter school that requires parent participation. You try calling a parent at a an urban public school, the numbers are disconnected, you get hung up on, and there was even a time when I spoke to a mother who denied her child because she didn't care to hear how her child was doing in school.

People don't understand that there is more to the educational systen than the teachers. Teachers have very little power. People want to blame the unions for the school systems but it is much more complicated. What about disrespectful children that are not allowed to be removed from the class? What about the lack of parent participation? I became a teacher to change the system but I found out very quickly that my power is limited. I dont choose what I teach or how I teach. I get no support.

not saying the former doesn't happen at all, I'm saying the latter happens exponentially more.

Private schools also have an easier time expelling students, disciplining them, requiring parent participation, and generally reside in wealthier neighborhoods which has to help. So does keeping out EAP students and special needs children .

srsly, which of these situations do you think is more likely with a poor school.

Kids want to learn, lazy drunken, or cruel teacher who doesn't care holds them back, is kept on due to corrupt union

    - OR -

Teacher tries to teach, cannot discipline unruly students due to rules about not doing ANYTHING to them. calls parent, is asked "fuck you bringin me this shit for". Student continues to not give a shit, is given no assistance or instruction at home.
