@wickedmrpickett I've seen her live three times and her voice echos in your soul. You can feel it from the inside out.

I love Brandi and I love this Leonard Cohen song.. K.D Lang also performs this with enough chutzpah to bring tears to my eyes..... wonderfull song.. Thank you..

Prior to hearing this I really liked Brandi's singing/songs. Now, I'm truly amazed.

This is the first version I've heard that has gotten even close to Jeff Buckley's...beautifully done.

you couldnt have said this better. I too am blown away by her talent. I Iisten to this Angel's songs constantly and never get tired of them...NEVER!! It am fortunate to be seeing her live next week and if I had the good fortune of meeting her face to face, I honestly don't have any idea what I would say to her. Im afraid i would say something stupid! So yes, i admit i would be intimitdated! I think I would just stand there and smile and be happy to even shake her hand!

I remember hearing this for the first time. It was almost painful to listen to, because she sings with such pure emotion and such honest artistry. It was as if it was so real I couldn't handle it. My favorite version of this song was KD Lang's and she sings it amazingly but there is nobody who does it like Brandi does. So beautiful and so musical, I feel like she has interpreted the song the best.

Frankly I would put Rufus Wainright ahead of Leonard Cohen... and yes, I am aware that Cohen wrote the song.
I've heard Brandie on NPR stations for years, but I'm really just starting to "listen". I'm blown away. She reminds me so much of Jeff Buckley (and not just because she did the Buckley version of Cohen's Hallelujah). She has that beautiful and tormented voice that just seems to echo out into the ethos. Truly remarkable and very, very talented.

Hmmm...I think I've figured out the difference between this & Buckley's (for me at least). Buckley's is truly haunting, calling forth emotions that rip your heart out. Carlile's is somehow uplifting, I think due to the warm/soft strings & the ever-so-slight country twang in her voice. Her version calls forth emotions that make your heart soar. Is one better than the other? No, just different emotional interpretations of the same arrangement. Man, I love when music can do that!
