I have a 2009 macbook pro that does not have a mini displayport compatible with audio, so I am using a male to male 3.5mm audio cable, but the audio is not working. I do not see my TV on the list of outputs under audio. Is there any way to deal with this? Thanks.

You don't need the audio cable if the macbook pro is from mid-2009 on because apple made mini displayport capable of transmitting sound after that point. I watched this video and it took forever for me to figure that out.

Thanks for this very enlightening video. I didn't even know there was such an adapter cable. Hoewever, can you share your experience regarding the picture quality? Is there any noticeable difference compared to an HDMI to HDMI connection (not that there is an option when it comes to Mac, thank you Apple...)

I CANT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR SAYING. you need a what now?

@Escorpio40 Fuckin Right. That shit hella fuckin pisses me off.

I didn't need an audio cable to get the sound out of my tv, just go to the sound preference in System Preferences, click on Output (or whatever it says on the english OS) and in the list you should see your TV (in my case it says '32" TFT-TV')
No hassle at all!
