Ever wonder how you get debug mode in Sonic and Knuckles? As far as I know, it's not directly possible, but, by exploiting a class 7 bug (very severe as it'll crash the game) with Sonic 3 & Knuckles, you can. There's only one requirement: you've obtained all the emeralds and can transform (the chaos emeralds should be good enough, but it's no guarantee). I explain how to get debug mode, how it works (sort of), and, most importantly, how to get it in Sonic & Knuckles. This is my first live vocal recording. Debug mode is easy to use:

While in normal mode:
D-pad - move Sonic.
A - reverse gravity (works in all levels).
B - enter debug mode.
C - jump/spin dash.

While in paused mode:
D-pad - does nothing.
A - "soft reset" the console, often used to choose another level.
B - slow motion (process 30 frames per second instead of 60).
C - frame advance (advances game time by 1/60 second.

While in debug mode:
D-pad - move the item.
A - change items (they repeat and some don't work properly).
B - exit debug and return to normal mode.
C - place an item.

When choosing a level, as I forgot to mention, hold A then press and hold start on the level you want to play debug in. Continue holding until the level loads in full and the game pauses. Press B to confirm (enters debug).

  • how do u get more games in sonic mega collection

  • Start and quit each game 20 times and you'll get everything. It takes about a half hour so you might consider reading a book or magazine while waiting for the system to load.

  • Not sure if you mentioned this in the video, but either the ring count or seconds tells you the amount of sprites on screen.

  • Ring count doesn't matter. The seconds isn't the number of sprites visible (why else does a single object add 2 or 8 instead of 1), it's probably memory in sets of 512 bytes. 80, the max, means 40 KB of memory is used. The minutes is the number of lost frames which should be 0 (if it remains a constant 1, the game's speed is cut in half).

  • "Glide off..." never heard that term. I like that.

  • I think you're referring to "glide hop".

  • (cont.) thing left left left right right right up up up on d-pad or analog stick then press pause then press A and go to level select or stage select hold A+start and you have debug mode :D(you must hear a ring to indicate you did the code correctly)and in S&K you get level select on pulley the same as debug in S3K and hold start+A :D

  • actually there is a version thats not a bug in S3K if your on a swing in AIZ and do left left left right right right up up up on d-pad or analog stick you can enable levels select then press B in pause for slow gameplay and a for soft reset then go to level select select mushroom hill get on a pulley and do the same (continued in nect comment)
