This is a sound clip posted by a member of a guitar forum. He described it as a working demo intended to show that P90's sound cool for metal music. The band (at the time) was called Istari and the working title of the clip was The Fear. Below is what he said about the clip.

"This was recorded with my somewhat-recently acquired 1963 Gibson SG Junior using it's stock dog-ear P-90 pickup. I ran it through my PODxt and into Adobe Audition - very little processing was used - no compression, minimal EQ, and no more gain than I normally use with a humbucker-equipped guitar. I did gate some for noise, but not as much as I thought I'd have to.

I think it kind of goes to show that you don't need Invaders, EMGs, or anything else with massive output to get a good, solid metal tone."

The owner of this 1963 SG now has it up for sale on ebay:

  • Why shouldn't they work? Iommi played with p90s on his SG. And he basically invented metal.

  • @Megamaniac610 My Xaviere has the stock P-90s and the thought of replacing them hasn't crossed my mind. Shielding is needed though. Also, the pickup selector toggle switch has now failed, but I had already decided I wanted to do tone mods and void the warranty anyway, so I don't mind. My new soldering station keeps begging to be plugged in more often.

  • no metal guitars only metal guitarists =]

  • @TavernacleRecords I can't speak about xaviere guitars, but gfs pickups are amazing. Like, even if they were priced like Duncans they'd be a good deal.

  • @TavernacleRecords Update: I have received my Xaviere guitar and am amazed at how good it is for the price. Fender tone in spades, good workmanship, setup was ready to go right out of the box. It came in a wooden hard shell case, delivered for $233, and it is probably going to become my main axe out of 5 electrics. I will be ordering their Strat copy as soon as possible. I also received their GFS Bluesdrive pedal and am equally impressed with that! Sounds great into my Nova System.

  • @TattooedCarrot thx !

  • @mrgibsonsg67 Ok Istari...i find them !

  • God Tone! Just Ask Leslie!

  • @TavernacleRecords Clarification: Reverend has lots of good guitars with a variety of pickups, and their amps are top notch as well. I've heard good things about their pedals too but haven't tried one. And no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way. Just love their products.
