  • young people nowadays only know how to criticize LKY and the Lee Dynasty and PAP. what they don't appreciate is how a great visionary and manager LKY was, to be able to gather smart leaders and galvanize them to great achievements.

  • @Noogai45 Example, Norway's Church burnings by "Black-Metal" fans.We may see this as deplorable, violent act. But the perpetrators retorted that, Christianity came to replace their Pagan forefathers' with both blood and ink. And they are returning the favour with their music and church burnings. Or if u had read Malcom X autobiography, how he described that by sanctioning subtle racism, the Blacks suffered alot and descended into poverty n crime.

  • @Noogai45 Tough Laws are only good to a certain extent. In the end only Social Enlightenment and Collective Responsibility. An eg would be Saddam-Era Iraq. We all know how tough the dictator was with his laws to deal with sectarianism between Sunni and Shi'ites. As long as the tough laws were there, people were too scared to riot. But there was no genuine love and unity among Iraqis. And when Saddam was gone, the Sunnis and Shi'ites are at each other throats.

  • @Noogai45 That is a rather ignorant statement to make lumping peaceful mass demonstrations together with unlawful rioting and looting. That is exactly what every autocratic government wants their citizens to think to prevent anyone from disrupting their machinations of power The only "drugs" that most Western tolerate or legalized is Marijuana and Alcohol. What you call mocking, i call satyr. Satirists helps society to reflect on itself. Without a mirror, a society is blind

  • @Noogai45 Like i have said, I recommend you reading Aldous' Huxley's Brave New World. It seems you are too plugged into the matrix to see the rot that is setting in our society. I can easily turn the question around within SG context like. Am I free to choose my destiny? Am I informed enough about the white collar crimes in SG? How relevant is the ISA? What good is political censorship?

  • @gothless A free society? Freedom in America and countries like Britain means that people can be free to run rampant with hooliganism, wreck public and private property, shoot other people, bring in drugs and other harmful substances, mock and disregard authority. That's freedom for you. Having rowdy crowds of anti-social protesters isn't freedom for me. I've read Brave New World and while I was impressed by the book, I personally prefer 1984 over it.

  • @gothless A comfortable and blissful life is a good life for me. I am already thankful for all that I have here in Singapore. What good are these so-called rights and freedoms to me? Will they ensure I can live my life in a secure environment free from major crimes? Will they ensure that violence is kept under control? What good is freedom of the press? In America, the newspapers are so partisan in their roles that it is not enough to simply report the news, they actually have to take sides.

  • @gothless And I do hope you clarify what you mean by "historical baggage". It doesn't really take much to curb crime. Institute tougher laws, increase funding for law & order, increase surveillance, institute tougher gun control laws etc. And I don't see how historical baggage has anything to do with the Norway Massacre.

  • @gothless I am not attempting to bring in racism although I do concede that racial tendencies exist in our society. If I were your school principal, I'd kick out all the thugs and let them rot and stew in their own juice. Let them be thugs and waste their lives away for all I care. We have no time for loafers and criminals.

  • @Noogai45 Please, with all that farce going about one must not ignore that the fact remains that even with all the drama, Taiwan is still functioning, USA is still a superpower and the sky is still above our heads. So u will rather be living a comfortable blissful ignorant life as a sheep or a pig by givin up your rights and freedom to "those who know better" instead of living as a proud, creative contributing individual in a free society. You should read Brave New World

  • @Noogai45 Ahh bringing racism into the picture. Although it is not in my place to comment on the social downturn of other countries because they have their own historical baggage which brought them about as they are now. If u wanna talk about racial-hostility or imbalance in our society, i can assure you it is still there. Although, it is mostly swept under the rug thanks to ISA. I remember in my school thugs used to split into racial camps. And let's not forget our racial slurs
