Excellent thanks.. I have only one of these keys with my Passat ( bought 3 days ago) the local dealership wants £175 for a spare, This sounds like classic rip-off Britain. Any advice as to where cheaper keys may be bought, Germany perhaps ?

Thanks for it.....I changed the battery without problem but it did not work to remotely control my passat B6 ?? Did tried put it into the ignition and it can start the car without problem but still cannot sync with the car.....Any hints to solve it ??

nice video - and a good tip - my b6 is more than 6 years old by now and battery has never gone flat ... wondering how long it'll keep going

Very easy and straight forward - easiest way to remove the silver top is have the none secret button side facing you and push it away from yourself, if it's never been removed it will take some effort.

This key is called Kessy, just add it to the labels for easy-finding for others.
Anyways, helped me a lot .. one thing: the top-metal cap is first-time not easy to remove, just push sidewards the 'secret push-button', or use a mini-flat screwdriver (you will damage little plastic).

Thanks for this, really simple and well put together video. this has just saved me the hassle of getting stung by a VW dealer! Who knows what they would've charged!
you have to remove the key as shown and then it slides sideways. It will take some effort if its never been done before. You will hear a click and it will move 1/8th inch sideways. Then you can withdraw the top. It cannot be removed if the key is still in place as this prevents sideways movement.

The key has a rolling code. If pressed to often out of range of the car, it no longer works. This is by design to prevent someone finding keys from locating the car by repeated pressing whilst walking around a car park. People fall foul of it occasionally when the keys are in a handbag etc.

This key type is also used in other newer VW cars.
