@Applemask In my opinion, that entire last season was just really bad. Even though the ratings from the previous season had been good enough for the show to be renewed, the producers should have just ended the series when Cindy Williams left.
I also read an interview with Eddie Mekka where he said that playing Carmine had prevented him from having a singing career so I doubt he would have done a spin-off ...

@Applemask That's what I thought when I watch this ending, originally. I do wonder though if a show based around Carmine, in New York City, in the late-1960's/early-1970's with Eddie Mekka in the role could have been a better way for ABC-TV to keep the spirit of the show going into an 1983-84 (maybe beyond) season? ABC seemed to be facing some problems after the 1982-83 season as well as NBC started to rise in the ratings with much better shows and ABC was pushed to third and last at the time

@strawberrycrazy1 Seems like they cared more about selling a product than making television, because Laverne and Shirley ended with neither character actually in the show anymore. Penny Marshall cameos in this last episode, but it's really an attempt to sell the premise for another new show about Carmine.
AHHHHHHHHHHH your kidding me right!!!????!!!
