My Dad Lt. H. P. Williams was a staff officer of Flotilla 3, LCI-R rocket firing gun boats. In this video my Dad's flotilla is bombarding shore installations on Iwo Jima on Feb. 17th 1945, two days prior to the Marine Invasion of the island. There were over 800 US Navy ships in the assault on Iwo Jima. My Dad was aboard LCI 627 the flotilla flag ship when this action was photographed.

  • too bad all the japs were in their tunnels feeling no effect from these barrages...... a lot of marines were lost because we chose the braun over brains approach

  • My father was on LCI 471. It means a lot to see videos like this one. Thank you.

  • Hi again - Was this video filmed by a crew member or a War Department combat photographer? Great clarity in photography and color.
