What a load of arse.
a) Christmas means nothing to Chinese people - is just a normal day.
b) They don't 'work' at the Westin - they are there for a few hours once a week (always on Sunday apart from Christmas - should it fall on a week day)
c) I would rather see kids do something genuinely impressive, that they practice at and can be proud of than watch 'Miss 4yr old beauty queen USA' (featuring 'most mental, damaged freak show of a mother award') yet this seems to get national TV coverage..

I too find it's not a pleasing sight to see children entertaining a group of guests who are feasting while they are working. Westin should know that this is going to turn off many in the developed world, unless their management at the Shanghai branch is fully made up of locals. Thinking twice now to dine there when I go to Shanghai. By the way my child uses kid's clubs in hotels quite often. I will not be happy to see her entertained by fellow children in the clubs. Boo, Westin.

The entertainers at the Westin and all thoughout china are licenced, have special permits from the government and earn very good money and support their families. having been involved with this hotel i would say very clearly this is not exploitation. The entertainers are amazing and really enjoy their work and the fact they work for such a great property.

from my point of view is very stupid and made me sick. The goverment can give all the license they want, remaning a disgusting show.
about the matter the kids like it??? mhmhmh i do not think they enjoyed that night.

Dude, children work in the entertainment industry in every country - it's no big deal. And Christmas is a Christian festival and holiday it's not a Chinese one so these kids if not entertaining would just be at home or at school doing what they normally do on a normal day.
The Westin is not exploiting these children - I am sure they were paid well and enjoyed entertaining the guests.
