  • Thank you all for your appreciative remarks!

    Best,

    Althea

  • Very Lovely. Is that by chance a Howarth Oboe d"more? I have an XL oboe and EH and considering the d'more. Beautiful beautiful sound.

  • It's actually a Loree, as is my cor anglais. My oboe is a Marigaux.

    Best wishes,

    Althea

  • Yes. The oboe d'amore plays in the key of A. The lowest note is the concert G# below middle C. The instrument was used a great deal by Bach in his various cantatas, passions and oratorios. It also crops up now and again in some of the French C20 symphony orchestral repertoire. Telemann also wrote two concertos for it, and of course there is the famous A-major concerto by Bach.

  • Where is possible to buy de music?

  • I bought the music at Howarth's. The shop's full name is T W Howarth, 31 Chiltern St, London W1, and the phone number is 020 7935 2407. You can also order music online via their website.

Enjoy playing it, and thanks for your kind remarks.

    Althea

  • I love you oboe, actually I've a new Marigaux, but I hope someday to have yours.

  • Amazing! :D But why does the reed look all jacked up compared to the regular reed placement in a regular oboe?

  • You played beautifully and love the sound of the oboe d'amore. I don't know what piece yet but I was told recently that I will get to play this instrument very soon. Excited!

  • oboe d'amores are so adorable :)

  • you never answered my question, Hahaha, what key is the Oboe D'Amore pitched in , is i concert C like oboe , O in some odd key like.....A. Hhahaha no offense to the Cors etc. in A.

Actually, I find that trumpet takes more air than my oboe does, especially when playing high notes. And reeds are WAY better if you can make them yourself. It's much cheaper and you can adjust them to play how you like them. Store bought reeds are often too brittle, soft, and thin to do much of anything with. Of course, making reeds is rather dificult =[. I'm not too good at it, but it just takes a lot of practice.

The oboe d'amore is in the key of A.

  • Really beaufiful! So glad you introduced us to this piece, too. Should that be an E flat at the end of bar 43? Anthony. (Fellow Brit who studied with Camden, a bit with Craxton, and then did not play full time, but went into teaching biblical languages).

  • What is special about your Marigaux oboe? I have heard that the sound is dark. Is that right ? Loved your playing of the d'amore. I have a rigoutat oboe, d'amore and cor anglais. Anthony (also at youtube, salut d'amour, playing at home)
