@jasonhanjin You're right, there is nothing wrong, that is the old part of TJ. Now this City is an an normally development there, many is changed or on change. I'm living in TJ for more then 12 years. If I see this clip immediately I become homesick.

燕王爺建的600年老城，裏邊儿的胡同儿可惜了儿的斗没了，北京­和天津丫的房地産發展商可厲害了，十五年内把京津變成深圳！

I reckon it's sad that many touching stories will fade away once these are knocked down. Anyway, do not take them as a reflection on the huge gap between the rich and poor in China. The residents are just as normal as us. Urban poverty is common in major economic centres, but with Tianjin, it's not the case.

If you want to understand chinese culture and history, there is a shortcut by studying the buildings. These tubes were built in d 1920s. Each of everyone has its very own stories. Many people from my grandfather's generation were born and spent their entire lives therein. Due to the huge population, housing development is extremely challenging in terms of magnitude and techniques. Many insist these are their priceless family heritage, which also excerbate the process with compensation issues.
