The massive problem with sharia is at the extreme edges that allow primitive punishment and denial of human rights. It has no place in an intelligent and enlightened society. Erm, sharia law cannot come into the UK anyway since at least 2 prerequisites are required: an islamic state, a caliphate.

Since Britain has none of the above mentioned, sharia law CANNOT come into place - so anyone who's shitting bricks over this aspect is seriously ill-informed.

I should also mention that the harsh punishments (under sharia law) are not applicable to non-muslims. So in the unlikely event of it coming to britain, you really have nowt to worry about.

excellent rebuttal however comparing the situation of Islamic women and Jewish women and blindly pronouncing them the same is a farce. Islamic women are actively brutalized and intimidated by their society. Jewish women are not.. The situation is like comparing a Mafia arbitration court where every one would "voluntarily submit" to its rulings, A religion that routinely all over the world employs tactics like Islam has no more business being granted powers of arbitration than the mafia.

Just as with 'the news' being morphed into 'media'. 'News'...implying novelty and veracity, whereas 'media' implies something placed between the commoner and reality.

While I am no supporter of the Roman Catholic (he's not really an atheist) Pat Condell, you are missing a fine point.

When the Minister talks about British Law...he is not referring to Acts. Acts are Statutes to which one has a choice of whether to adhere to or not. If one does not wish the privilege, one waives the benefit. The Law Common stands above Statutes Merchant, Admiralty, etc....as do all who cling to said.

Mediation is the manner by which justice is denied.

@whypatcondellisntfun Killing is wrong regardless of crime... but It seems to me that western justice is at least fair. For example we don't kill adulterers or gay people...that's nature's problem not the business of religion. Nor is our justice based on a primitive garbled book and served without proper trial...Within Islam the maistream opinion is never truly heard because of fear...non muslims hate you because of this totalitarian ideology.
