@moshiomoshimoshi I don't know if someone's already told you but the first cars that were invented back in the 1800s used WATER to work and so they released steam- so they were called 汽車, and the first ever trains used fire and coal to work so they were called 火車. So these words have been around for a long time and they never changed even after cars started using gas instead and trains started using electricity. :)

廣州(香港)語は「車」はもう「自動車」の意味，「汽」を外すは­ok...

なお、中国語の「電車」(特に香港)は「路面電車(street car)」の意味です。

in japan, 「火の車」 means "be struggling in indigent circumstances".

for example, 「うちの店は原油高騰の影響で火の車です。」

it is funny for us such brand-new rich trains are called 「火車」 !! LoL

btw, we say 「自動車」 to call "automobiles",

but the chinese say 「汽車」 right? (in hong kong too?) 「汽車」 means "steam locomotive trains" in japanese.

that's interesting too.
