This tutorial describes the process of creating a simple drum loop using step sequencing with Redrum in Reason. The aim is to give those who have little to no experience with step sequencing or Reason a reference point with which they can start composing proper songs.

Included in the tutorial:

*Setting up a Reason environment
*Chaining devices using 'create'
*Selecting a Tempo
*Adding Reason's drum samples into Redrum in their own respective channels (without using preset patches)
*Composing a basic loop using the Redrum step sequencer
*Increasing the loop pattern to 32 steps

Finally, this tutorial was made in Windows XP using Reason 3.0 (complete installation). Therefore, the pathways to the Reason Factory Sound Bank may vary between OS and version.

Note that this is a 2 year-old video, and I stated in the description that the OS and version I used might correspond with whatever you are using. Your ineptitude at browsing files on your computer isn't my problem. Sorry.

Primarily, I didn't want to waste time saying "gee, um, I'll just do this okay now wait, um, okay, oops". I secondly used text so that people could pause the video, switch over to Reason, input data, and then switch back to the video without feeling like they missed something. Finally, I made the video for people who are not complete imbeciles (eg. people who don't wet their diapers when they are forced to read a sentence). Hope that clarifies things for you, thanks.

  • Great tutorial mate. Nice and easy to follow. Although I kinda knew that much, you did teach me some neat shortcuts. I didnt know you could right click the mixer for example.

Are you planning on doing something similar for the sequencer? I'm tearing my hair out trying to get my drums to kick in when I want them too. Everything seems to just play all at once.

    Cheers

  • @Dexstasy There SHOULD be a bar that says when you shrink it (by clicking the arrow on the right side of it) 'REASON Hardware Device' and you right-click on that instead.
