It's the voltage regulator inside the alternator. When you give it gas the voltage output increases as it does with every other alternator, yours just isn't regulating the high voltage, causing a most likely fried battery. Fix of this is to replace the alternator, I believe this has an internal regulator that can't be replaced by itself.

Our Taurus is doing the exact same thing, all the lights, radio and everything works in it but the battery doesn't have enough juice to start the car. When we turn the key it won't even turn over, all I hear is the relay just like yours. My dad thinks it might be the starter but the car doesn't have any problems starting when there's juice. Do you think the alternator is bad or something else? Please respond.

theres a lil chip thats causes the alternaters to burn out the chip is located right on the left side of the fuse box

it was built by ford, diagnosed.

it probably is an alternator a little trick that i know is that if u get the car running and u take of the negative cable and if the car shuts off it is the alternator try that it may be with older cars though dude

i have a 2000 Camry with 256K miles only replace battery once...never replace alternator.

it not a battery light, its a charging systems problem light, most likely it is your altenator

2000 ford taures have that problem with their altinators. They are well known for overcharging. my 2000 taures does that too. mainly at a higher rpm.its the altinator.

doesnt a bad starter cause battery drain?

Looks to me like its been sitting up for a while. Best advice I can give you is take the battery out and take it to a local parts store and get it tested if its not that Im thinkin its the alternater too. Or try going through the fuses on the the inside and under the hood and make sure none is blown. I had that happen before, 10 amp fuse shut the whole car down.
You didnt need to replace the battery, all you needed to do,was charge it up overnight.

well my mom had bought the new battery weeks before when she didn't know what it was and by the time she asked me to look at it it was dead so I swapped it out at the store she bought it from without a problem since it still looked brand new. This is her second car so it wasn't a priority to get fixed.

Hi Everyone... thanks for the feedback. It was the alternator. I was thrown because i thought if that was the only problem it should run fine once it's started but realized from the feedback that even though it was running all the electronic components still didn't have enough juice to run with the depleted battery. I replaced the alternator and battery and all is well. Thanks for the help! Odunk
