Derrick Barry remembers the moment he fell in love with Britney Spears. "I was getting ready to go to school, and the ... Baby One More Time video came on MTV. I was sitting there, eating my cereal. I was mesmerized," he says.
He didn't know it then, but the Brit fascination would morph into a career. Barry, a former gymnast, made a big splash on the third season of America's Got Talent with his uncanny Spears impersonation. He made the top 40 and even got judge David Hasselhoff to admit "questioning" his sexuality.
Since then, Barry has appeared in music videos alongside Eminem and Katy Perry, and he's taken his Brit-Brit on the road and all over the country.
Pop sensation TIFFANY the youngest female artist to notch a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 headlines GALVESTON PRIDE 2009, Oct. 24 at Saengerfest Park.
The red-haired diva will be joined for a day of island festivities by DERRICK BARRY, American Idols KADY MALLOY, Houston Pride Idol AJ CABRERA and singer JAY ARSENO.
Tiffany signed her first record contract at 13 years old and released her self-titled debut album in 1987. It produced three top 10 hits including No. 1 smashes I Think Were Alone Now" and "Couldve Been" and sold 4 million copies.
The Color of Silence, Tiffanys "comeback" album, was dubbed one of the finest pop albums of 2000 by Billboard magazine and featured the single "Im Not Sleeping." She also turned heads (and fulfilled fanboy dreams) with a spread in the April 2000 issue of Playboy.
Tiffany threw fans another curveball with 2005s Dust Off and Dance, a high-energy collection of club anthems tailor-made for her dedicated GLBT audience.
She continued the dance-diva trend with hit singles "Higher," "Just Another Day" and "Dust Off and Dance."
Kady Malloy earned a coveted slot in American Idol 7s semifinal rounds, where she missed making the top 12 by one week. Simon Cowell dubbed Malloy "the best so far" and "super, super talented" after her first audition. She has shared the stage with Air Supply, Travis Tritt, Keith Anderson and Brooks & Dunn. Malloy has also recorded several tunes, including a cover of Cyndi Laupers "She Bop" currently spinning at clubs. She co-wrote "Where Are the Stars," streaming now at myspace.com/kadymalloy. And, of course, her dead-on Britney Spears impersonations were an Idol highlight.
GALVESTON PRIDE is the brainchild of Laura Villagrán and Angela Snell, publishers of the Gay Yellow Pages directory and the website GayIslander.com.
