Chita Rivera guest-starred in this 1964 episode, which was the series' take on Macbeth. The cast also included Sally Kellerman and Martin Landau; in this opening scene, John Hoy plays Bifrost Alien and Neil Hamilton plays Richard Bellero, Sr.
I just watched this episode again yesterday, and I never realized it was a take on Macbeth. This episode straddles the line of melodramatic dialogue, but unlike the Anthony Wilson-scripted episodes (e.g., Children of Spider County) doesn't cross into the corny.
This episdoe (The Bellero Shield) was the best ...that last scene with Sally Kellerman freed from the shield but with luminous alien blood on her hand, still thinking she was trapped - was perfect metaphor..
The camera angle with her outstretched hand and C.Rivers terified face...brilliant.
This show was more serious than Twilight Zone and creppier..
I agree, I use to sleep walk with nightmares watching this show with my dad. LOL It had excellent storys and your right Dominic Frontier sure set the mood. True scary storys without all the blood an guts, if we could only go back.
Definately THE all-time best sci-fi/fantasy anthology series! This show used to scare the hell out of me as a child. Dominic Frontier did a masterful job with the eerie mood music.Still my fav classic tv series.
This was one of the best epsiodes of the original "Outer Limits." A couple of minor errors in the description: This isn't the opening scene, it's the third-act ending. And it's John Hoyt, not Hoy.
thank you for that!...the memory is so vivid, i was around 10, and when i heard..'' great men have forgiven their murderous wifes'', i remember thinking the old man seems a little crazy!
LOL!!! I love the Outer limits but this is so stupid.

This episode was so Creepy, but in a FANTASTIC Way!
And yeah, that's Commisioner Gordon from the 60's Batman show....what a trip.

Often dark, very dramatic, gothic - film noir...
