This week we're coming to you from the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. We've been working our collective uberGeek tails off to get Interop Las Vegas 2008 ready for prime time and finally the day has arrived. The show is on, classes have started, and us uberGeeks are getting back to that which we do best... checking out the gear!

Our first stop was at the Enterasys engineering table to ask them about a new little box that has many of us uberGeeks piqued. The D2 Enterprise Table switch combines easy-of-use, quiet operation, ACL policies, POE and a plethora of expandability options. Take a look and enjoy.

  • Really Father Robert?... Out of ALL of Interop, this was one of the coolest gadgets to show us??? There HAD to be something sexier than this. Of all of your shows, this was the first one that bored me. I guess that it was just too technical for me.

  • Wupierto, There is actually some very cool stuff at the show, I just haven't had that much time to edit down the footage. The NOC team has been here for about 8 days, sleeping 4 hours a day and spending the rest of time patching, manhandling equipment, troubleshooting problems and getting entirely too drunk. (Not me... I just bless the drunkies!)

I promise to get some cool, less-ITuberGeeky stuff to you soon... in any case.. thanks for watching. Peace, Fr. Robert

  • Can't find any online store selling this switch, please share where this can be purchased, thanks

  • These are BRAND new... give it a few days before you start seeing pricing online.

  • Good episode, nice to see at spokesperson for a product who really knows what he is talking about.

  • Thanks Jaded... This stuff is a little higher-level than we're accustomed to on the show, but it's fun stuff nonetheless. Peace, Fr. Robert

  • Matt look so scared! Were you not being nice to him!?!?!

  • The I-series is an insudtrial switch meant for harsher environments, such as oil rigs. it is UL Class 1, Div 2 A-D HazLoc certified, which means it will not generate sparks, and all connections are sealed.

It is also dustproof(IP50) so it has no fans, extreme temperature tolerant (-40C to 60C), and shock resistant (~50G trapezodial). There are also special MGBICs to provide fiber connectivity, and rubber plugs to seal any unused copper ports.

  • Thanks. I'm not really a spokesperson, just an engineer. However if you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer them.

  • ...and don't forget the gambling. We ARE in Vegas...

  • This is Matt. If you tell me where you are located I can get you in contact with a Sales Rep, however we do a lot of sales through partners such as CDW or Dell. The D2 started shipping in February to select customers and I believe is officially announced here at InterOp.

  • pretty much a show on geekology

  • you guess should doe a show on teaching people like me how do do things like setup firewalls and explain how things work and what your talking about.
