Hunting is Banned in Yellowstone. Hunting is allowed on federal and state land outside the Yellowstone boundaries. Animals that leave the park are hunted. But you really can't tell which animals belong in the park and which don't. Hunting is a long tradition for both Montanan and Wyoming locals. They help to keep the populations in check and the State wildlife agency's work with the Parks Rangers to keep the animals of the Yellowstone vicinity healthy. There are many dedicated men and women here

Yellowstone is not closing. I live in Gardiner, right next to Yellowstone. Every year, the park closes for a month for us to switch for summer tourism to winter. It's an awkward time when the snows are falling but are really not deep enough to totally cover all the roads so that the snow coaches and snowmobiles can use them. It's a beautiful time of the year in Yellowstone. We run winter programs until the end of April/May depending on the weather. We look forward to having you here someday!
