The Nelson Mandela concert in 88 was absolutely amazing. Whitneys voice was at its best. To think of how her instrument sounds today compared with then is criminal. When Whitney hit those high notes you had goossebumps. Nobody hits those notes like she did not even Mariah or Celine. Her upper register was breathtaking. I just live in hope that her new album contains a glimpse of a recovered Whitney - although her voice will never be that good again it is still one of the finest voices around.
Oh I agree. I remember when this was. I watched it onTV and a few friendss of mne were actually there. Nelson Mandela had asked for Whitney to perform. It was in the middle of her 'Moment of Truth tour' which I attended. This is why I find it so sad to hear her today - cos I know exactly what she was capable of. Whitney was way ahead of her peer group and was in a league all of her own. Forget your Aretha's/Mariahs and Celine's - at this moment they couldn't hold a candle to Whitney.

My only discrepancy is the transition from 2:38 to 2:40.
She has a different style.
