  • Yeah, I agree with the crew that subscibes to the fact that Cobham doesn't take many chances with the track and lays back and is subdued...Could've been a been more avant garde, in some respects and brought more color and shading to the piece. I always feel like you should have a good time on the set, regardless of the piece. Bring some spice. Viva la Afrika!

  • @dkofva I disagree, this is a ballad after all, Billy is playing a supporting role & this is a nice example of how not overplay, which seems to be the norm these days.

  • @ignaciomoran agreed...hes a drummer...we use brushes sometimes...its anice change of pace....shows talent and versatility

  • @jykds I agree , a good drummer doesnt show off all the time, he knows exactly when to show his skills and when to be patient. This is actually the key to good music. Billy fullfills all of these conditons.

  • @daabbot

If you're into fusion, check out "Steps Ahead". It's all good, but some of my personal faves are 'Beirut', 'Oops', 'Islands', and 'Trains'

  • No, I don't mean overplay, I'm just saying it seems like he's castrated. There have been times where I have felt like that; like I have been held to the wall and suspended and used like a gilded monkey in a cage. I mean, maybe they should have called someone a little conservative; if it were me. I think he could have done more without overshadowing. The track sounded hollow. I have been there. And hated it with a vengeance.

  • Mainieri looks like a spiffy Kurt Vonnegut

  • very nice ! ですね.

  • @ignaciomoran Cobham and brushes is like a stripper wearing a parka. It just ain't right! :)

  • @Asymmatrix

I take it you don't know the compositional approach to a ballad like this. Cobham's brushes are perfect. His playing here is an attestment to his virtuosity and sensitvity. And who the hell is Abe Vigoda to these giants? Geez!
