Cocoons
A project by Kevin Cools (Design Academy Eindhoven)
Mitumba; huge second hand clothing markets in (Tanzania) Africa.
We often see used clothing as something useless, it has no value for us. Hence the reason why we give it away for charity. These Africans, however, see it as something very nice and wearable. As soon as these Africans pull the used clothing out of the bales, it gets a new life; just like a cocoon.
To show the world that used clothing can not be seen as "crap" at all, I presented this fashion show full of used items. This way used clothing becomes more of a brand and is almost haute couture like.
Next to that the whole process becomes less anonymous. Right now we have no idea where our clothes go to, and they don't know where they came from.
Love Africa.
