Following the crest of the Wyoming Range is the 75 mile Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail. More of a route then a trail one end is located in Hoback Canyon near Jackson Hole, the other end in Snider Basin near Big Piney. The trail is primitive and rugged and the area more wild then many designated wilderness areas.
In 1999 the Wyoming Range Legacy Act protected 1.2 million acres of the Wyoming and Salt River Ranges from energy and mineral development. Unfortunately, 75,000 acres of existing undeveloped energy leases remain in the heart of one of the largest non-wilderness roadless areas in the lower 48 states.
On August 20-22, 2010 Forrest McCarthy mountain biked the length of Wyoming Range Trail. Starting at the Bryan Flats in Hoback Canyon Forrest followed the Wyoming Range National Recreation Trail all the way to Snider Basin. On the southern end of the range he chose a higher route than the official trail and followed the crest of the range over Mount Coffin and Wyoming Peak.
I can't wait to get back up there! Great video. What camera did you use?
