most people into the mainstream music genre have no clue that the beastie boys were a punk rock band in the early 80's.and even though they made it into the mainstream they never forgot where they came from...they played what seems like almost every weekwend on the lower east side of nyc in the early 80's. those were the days

The beasties were fortunate to live in NYC in the early 80s and witness firsthand the development of both rap and hardcore punk. Rap and hardcore are similar in a lot of ways, and even though they shifted their focus to rap, they never forgot their roots. RIP MCA!!!

I didn't know their first album was a rock/punk and I never heard any of these songs I'm just use to their rap and all this time I thought license to ill was the first album, I'm not complaining but I really don't like the first album and what made them change their genera of music
