@mrdojob alpha radiation isn't at all weak energy wise...It's penetration ability is very low. so a few inches of air or clothing will stop it. But you ingest or inhale an alpha emitter and it's a whole other story. Look up the Litvinenko case for a great example of what a potent alpha wave emitter is capable of.

@monkeyman1140 not enough, if it collapses its gonna realease lot more radioation
-
@brandon5578 well its the short lived ones that it chucks out are the main problem i suppose at the time.

@mrdojob There is way worse radioactive elements than just uranium. But by now they have probably decayed
-
Really ? I'm sorry :(
-
well you wont die in 5 minutes but it aint healthy..
-
Yes. Don't forget that uranium is a very weak emitter of alpha radiation. The weakest type and it can't even penetrate the skin. Its safe now that they have that cover over the reactor to be outside it but inside is a different matter. Its only the quantity of the weak radiation that kills not the power of the radiation like most people think.

am , reactor #4 =sarcophagus...
-
Its safe as long as you dont get really close or stay there too long.
