Sûrat Al-Balad
(The City) XC

In the Name of Allâh,
the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful 1. I swear by this city (Makkah); 2. And you are free (from sin, and to punish the enemies of Islâm on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah).[1] 3. And by the begetter (i.e. Adam عليه السلام) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny). 4. Verily, We have created man in toil. 5. Does he think that none can overcome him? 6. He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 7. Does he think that none sees him? 8. Have We not made for him two eyes, 9. And a tongue and two lips? 10. And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 11. But he has not attempted to pass on the path that is steep (i.e. the path which will lead to goodness and success). 12. And what will make you know the path that is steep? 13. (It is) freeing a neck (slave)[2] 14. Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 15. To an orphan near of kin. 16. Or to a Miskîn (poor) cleaving to dust (out of misery). 17. Then he became one of those who believed (in the Islamic Monotheism) and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 18. They are those on the Right Hand (i.e. the dwellers of Paradise), 19. But those who disbelieved in Our Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 20. The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet.[3]

Au nom d'Allah, le Tout Miséricordieux, le Très Miséricordieux.

1. Non!.. Je jure par cette Cité(2)!

2. et toi, tu es un résident dans cette cité(3) -

3. Et par le père et ce qu'il engendre!

4. Nous avons, certes, créé l'homme pour une vie de lutte.

5. Pense-t-il que personne ne pourra rien contre lui?

6. Il dit: «J'ai gaspillé beaucoup de biens».

7. Pense-t-il que nul ne l'a vu?

8. Ne lui avons Nous pas assigné deux yeux,

9. et une langue et deux lèvres?

10. Ne l'avons-Nous pas guidé aux deux voies(4).

11. Or, il ne s'engage pas dans la voie difficile!(5)

12. Et qui te dira ce qu'est la voie difficile?

13. C'est délier un joug [affranchir un esclave],

14. ou nourrir, en un jour de famine,

15. un orphelin proche parent

16. ou un pauvre dans le dénuement.

17. Et c'est être, en outre, de ceux qui croient et s'enjoignent mutuellement l'endurance, et s'enjoignent mutuellement la miséricorde.

18. Ceux-là sont les gens de la droite;

19. alors que ceux qui ne croient pas en Nos versets sont les gens de la gauche.

20. Le Feu se refermera sur eux.

ﺳﻮﺭﺊ ﺑﻠﺪ ﻣﻜﯽ ﮨﮯ ﺍﻭﺭ ﺍﺱ ﻣﯿﮟ ﺑﯿﺲ ﺁﯾﺘﯿﮟ ﮨﯿﮟ۔
ﺷﺮﻭﻉ ﻛﺮﺗﺎ ﮨﻮﮞ ﺍﹴ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﲐ ﻛﮯ ﻧﺎﻡ ﺳﮯ ﺟﻮ ﺑﮍﺍ ﻣﮩﺮﺑﺎﻥ ﻧﮩﺎﯾﺖ ﺭﺣﻢ ﻭﺍﻻ ﮨﮯ۔
