  • To achieve a true 'black polish' the watchmaker slowly polishes the surface of the steel part on a flat tin block with an applied polishing compound. To check his progress the watchmaker flicks the part in the light. If he has achieved a perfect flat and flawless polish then it will reflect blackness back at him. Mass produced methods such as tumble polishing will tend to round the surface and when twisted in the light will reflect a shiny and slightly rounded polish. Hope this helps.

  • A True masterpiece!

  • Very clear presentation. Thanks. But why do you refer to 'black' polish, when the finish is anything but black?
