This video showcases the beta, unused ocarina pedestal that can be seen at Lord Jabu Jabu's pond. Another interesting thing in this video is that if you look and listen closely, you realize that there are actually TWO Jabu Jabu's inside each other. I don't know if this contributes to the crashing problem, but straying too close to Jabu Jabu or trying to enter the water crashes the game.

  • Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I have heard that the Ocarina of Time Debug ROM based on the Master Quest can load this room properly, without risking the game crashing. Also, according to what I heard, this is because in these versions (1.0, 1.1 and 1.2) the reason why the area is so liable to crash is because the room loads 6 Jabu-Jabu moderls, most like each at the same spot, so you see "one" but are six. Source: The Cutting Floor Room.

  • @TheMexicanLynx I'd like to see that, I'll have to look it up. I knew there were at least two Jabu Jabu's inside of each other, but six is insane. Haha. I know you can only distinctly SEE two (two sets of feathers on his head, two rows of teeth) but I guess they could be directly overlapped in some cases. You can even hear the audio layered when he breathes.

  • How do you access beta areas? I'm using a project64 emulator, and in the cheats I have selected "access beta areas by holding R" but when I hold the R equivalent on the keyboard, nothing happens. What am I supposed to do?

  • @TwilightPrincess68 You will need to use the "Beta Quest" code, which differs depending on which version of the game you have. Your game version should be 1.0, 1.1, or 1.2 unless you have the GameCube ROM. 1.0 was the gold cartridge with the swordless link glitches still intact. 1.1 fixed these glitches, I believe. And if my memory serves me correctly, 1.2 is the one with the changed Fire Temple music.

Basically, you enter the Beta Quest code and reset the ROM, and you're instantly in the BQ.

  • @TwilightPrincess68 Beta Quest codes, by version:

    Version 1.0:

    801197E3-0020

    Version 1.1:

    8011BBA3-0020

    Version 1.2:

    8011C093-0020

Modifying the last four digits will start you off in a different variant of the Beta Quest. I believe the code I entered here changed them to "0001". It's been years since I've really fooled around with it, but I believe everything from "0000-0008" worked. Don't hold me accountable to that one, though, it's been a really long time. Haha.

  • When I wnt there i got something diffrent. The pad was at an angle and i could stand on it! also the platform around the pad was fall through-able, except the area in front of the pad.

  • @superzeldafan64 Sounds like you were using the Specific Things Lean GameShark code, which makes certain things slant at an angle (like the Ocarina pad) and keeps the game from crashing in certain situations. My guess is that you can fall through all the areas that normally crash the game when you use this code.

Thanks for sharing that with us! I didn't think of trying that code in that spot. Did you find anything different?

  • What a wonderful universe that game has. Awesome find!

  • I've always thought it was a bit spooky to play these games without NPCs. The richness of the zelda world is amazing and cathartic.

  • If I'm playing the GameCube version on my Wii with the GCN controller, can I access to Beta rooms? Or can I download this version somewhere?

  • Actually, not that it matters, but most often, the game loads 6 jabu-jabu's. But it actually loads between 6 and 91. If you look at the game in UoT or something similar, it shows 6. But apparently there's something wrong and the code loops, loading more and more to the screen til the game freaks out. (I believe that's only if you enter from somewhere else on the map too)

  • @ChappyDee Yeah. o: I saw that, the "2 sets" of Jabu-Jabu... So it shows him with 4 sets of teeth (two down and two up) That's... creepy. XD My own little theory: 3 JabuJabus overlaped and other 3 overlaped but moved differently). Six is, indeed, very insane.

  • Finally a beta version with no freaking background music

  • @TwilightPrincess68 same thing here...have you figured it out?

  • That's was so freakin' scary!

  • Nevermind, I'm sorry, it's number 2. This probably also means that areas that you need to play the ocarina, it probably had that pedestal. Interesting!

  • What beta quest world is this one?
