what's the point? If you try to order coffee in Chinese in HK, they just answer you back in English.
I guess it's useful for Macau, though.

Agreed - Macau is a lot more accepting of "outsiders" speaking Cantonese than HK.
Don't give up on HK, though. It depends where you go and how you handle it. For example, if your server switches to English, and says "coffee?", try complimenting her/him in Cantonese about how good their English. Wah! Neih sik gong Yingman a?
You might get a smile, a do je and a return compliment.
Or ask them "coffee" Yingman dim gong a? Haih mh haih "gafei"?

It's by Faye Wong (王 菲) called 容 易 受 傷 的 女 人
usually translated as "Vulnerable Woman". You can find a video on YouTube of her singing it.
