This is cold air, punching through a warmer cloud. It turns the moisture into ice crystals, which then fall in unison out of the remaining cloud. you can see it falling. i saw them once in Chicago in November and one spot cause a hole every 5-10 minutes as the clouds moved along so there were actually about 5 or 6 of these in a line ranging from a circular to oval shape. Very strange looking though, but no multi-colored lights.

I really think that the government is trying very hard to cover up UFO and extraterrestrial contact. Therefor, I think that this is the result of a massive alien spacecraft that may have shielded itself from view to do who knows what. Then, it shot up into the sky to return to a home base/planet leaving a sort of, hole in the sky. This is just a guess...
