(Tomorrow Shall Be) My Dancing Day. Trad carol Arr. casetone2514

Probably dating from the early 1600s (though not found in print with text and tune together until the early 19th century) this may be a tune and tale from the pagan tradition of England and/or Germany where the "dancing day" came from the tradition of family and tribe members dancing around the crib of the newborn to ward off evil spirits. There are about a dozen verses in the full text of this song and although there are pagan references it is most definitely a liturgical dance song. The shortened version has become synonymous with Christmas and the "true love" reference that causes confusion to so many people is the traditional name that Jesus gives to His people or the Christian Church in this tradition.
