Manuel and the Music of the Mountains - Moonglow

"Let the music of Manuel dazzle and delight you" can be read on the back sleeve of the album from which this track has been selected. And that's exactly what this music does : it dazzles and delights you ! Geoff Love (the man 'behind' the Manuel orchestra) knew exactly how to arrange a song, not only did he make 'the song work for the particular sound of the orchestra' but he also knew how to take full advantage of the possibilities offered by the stereo and mixing technology of those days (end of the sixties). As a result what we get to hear is just heavenly. This version of the 1956 movie theme (aka "Moonglow and theme from Picnic") is so hauntingly beautiful that indeed, if there is music in heaven, it must sound very similar to something like this :) If someone would tell me to select 5 pieces of music to take with me to a lonely island...... this would be one of them :-)
From the 1969 album "Reflections" here are Manuel and His Mountain musicians with their delightful version of "Moonglow". Relax and Enjoy !

@chkjns I envy you Chuck :-) This indeed is an encounter you will remember always. Did you get his autograph/signature ? "Battlestar Galactica" actually is my favourite TV theme of all time - it illustrates the musical genius of Mr Phillips. The Hollyridge Strings albums belong to the best instrumental recordings that were ever recorded. Guess that could make me "the 2nd biggest fan" of him, no ;-)) ?.....

@Socratess2007 writing to you from Hollywood USA today, Walter! Composer, conductor, producer/arranger Stu Phillips spent an hour & a half with me here yesterday afternoon! He says he's never had a fan like me before. He scored & conducted 12 Hollyridge Strings albums - that's my first playlist right now. He wrote & conducted the themes for Battlestar Gallactica & Knight Rider - he's just a musician who has done everything! It will be one of the most memorable days of my life !!! chuck
