it would help shadow a lot if they gave her MORE attention than the puppy. when the guy plays with the puppy and THEN the girl lightly pets shadow, that is why she was upset. she needs to know she's not being replaced. that the puppy being there is a good thing. whenever she sees the puppy they should praise her. that's how that works.

When Cassie does the "I wanna play" kneel, Shadow looks in the other direction and ignores her. And when the guy begins to pet Cassie and play with her, Shadow gets up and walks out of the room. This means she didn't want anything to do with the new puppy :(
