I think Steve feels humiliated by his place in life, and is also crazy stubborn and defensive. This combination means he has the capacity to refuse to change, kind of out of spite, even though he knows he needs to. It's pretty sad.

Your reaction was so scary, I've never seen you like that.
But wow, he must've been really difficult to spend time on...

i like steve...he refuses 2 live a preprogrammed monetairy life
his new look will boost his ego but it wont change the way he think's about life

bruno, this guy is totally immature. I can't believe he doesn't know what he wants to do with his life at 42...I'm also shocked that he asked you what he should do! (unbelievable!)
why did he sign up for this makeover if he doesn't want to change? he doesn't want to change his life for the better, he doesn't want new teeth. I can't wait to watch the rest of the episode to see how it ends. (wouldn't be surprised if not much has changed)
I'm sorry. It usually is not my temperament either. :)

@fashiondesigner552: Steve was definitely a character. I am sure there are many unresolved emotional issues. He's too afraid to move on - he doesn't know how to. What is sad is that he missed a huge opportunity all in the name of fear. :(

He was extremely frustrating to work with. He believed I was an actor. I wonder if his belief impeded the opportunity for a better life?
