On the other hand, the "black church" functions as a hub for black culture, communication and solidarity-- it was an important part of the Civil Rights movement. Isolated people are unable to organize.

As a black man growing up in Misssissippi and attending church every Sunday; I thought and still believe religion is one of the worst belief systems ever introduced to us. I moved to Maryland over 20 years ago and haven't been to church since leaving home; my family have no clue that my wife and I are Atheist
