@Qowat1412Gaza Common mistake, you think you can pull your gun in time, or squeeze off a round before it's already out of our hand, or your arm is already disabled.

@colinmoras Keep studying and watch science of in-fighting for a good intro. You'll note shifting is employed everywhere in Wing Chun - especially during defense. When you execute chain punches, no opponent stands still. Expect transitions. Expect arms to cover up, block, or swing back... in WC, you might counter while shifting to guard your center lines while simultaneously striking (with shift punch, or palm, bridge hand, etc).... followed by more chain punches. Remember, it is only a drill.

I must say, this is quite impressive. I have been attempting to learn this method of punching, ever since I saw in performed. I am not certain how long you rtook to learn it, nor am I going to critique the execution, since I view all martial art as the same and I have never really trained in this particular aspect of it., but I do want to ask one thing. Would it be more effective if you moved toward your target, enchancing the power of the movement? It is the method I learned for power.

What you see here is 1 of many practice drills. This drill isn't from a fighting stance. You are right that you want to move toward your target with the punch. Mentally, think of your rear hand pulling your body toward the target. Final position of the elbow should be where the face or body use to be. This allows for spontaneous techniques like lop-sao to flow and be effective... ie, your punch can turn into something else if countered. For power, move something solid with you punches.

Does the execution of the technique, to acquire power, involve the rotation of the hips, to extend the reach? That is a principle of striking that I learned, to enchance power.

Mental models are useful. You can think of punching from the hand. You can think of the elbow doing the punching. Or the shoulder doing the punching (now 1 inch punch is starting to make sense). Or the punch originating in the stance. The further you go back - the more powerful the punch. Wing Chun uses shifting on heels for power which you learned - of course, keep in mind if you shift for every punch, you sacrifice speed - so many times, shifting is not used. For this drill, I shift every 5.
