you might want to watch check out Ed Alleyne Johnson, an English busker who plays electric violin, and the french guitar whizkid Mattrach, particularly his version of Canon in D, the one he plays on a white Ibanez guitar.

My dad, a pretty decent rhythm guitarist himself, was a Chet Atkins fan. Atkins was the first guitarist I ever heard, and nearly fifty years later, still among the best I ever heard.
Sorry, Chet makes Vai look like a banjo player and was about 40 years ahead.
