Free food and free red uniforms... when the "festivities" are paid for by some corrupt official who knows how to buy public "opinion" (it's not really the people's opinion, it's just their _participation_ -- but this is visible, and that's what counts in the media), is it any wonder that people will voluntarily attend such an event?

Also, as you observed, there are lots of news stations; the freedom of press allows every agenda, every bias to have its own news station for a mouthpiece.
