Nino Rota (1911-79) was an Italian composer, most famous for his movie scores for Fellini's and other movies. He also wrote concert music, and his 1958 trio for violin, flute and piano seems quite popular in the US, and appears on several YouTube videos. The 'Legend of the Glass Mountain' from 1949 is perhaps his best-known piece, and comes from his music to the movie 'The Glass Mountain' (La montagna di cristallo). The original is scored for piano and orchestra, but it became very well known in this piano solo version - which was played very widely in homes throughout the UK. I have to say that this version is much more of a piano reduction of the orchestral parts than a reflection of the piano solo part, which is quite decorative. However, it does convey the feel of the orchestral work quite well.
