David Chase said look at Stage 5 and Blue Comet for hints as to what happened in the finale. Basically the scene where Syl was at dinner and that guy was killed, how he didn`t realize how fast it happened,, and Bobby`s comment how you probably can`t hear the gun being fired and it goes to black. My theory is that Tony did die. Phil was killed in front of a mother with her 2 kids. It was a revenge hit. The guy going to the bathroom was an ode to the Godfather before Michael killed his target
