The Greater Chicago Food Depository is a nonprofit food distribution and training center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. Last year, the Food Depository distributed 66 million pounds food, the equivalent of 135,000 meals per day. Chicago's Community Kitchens is a food training service program at the GCFD for unemployed and underemployed adults. The program teaches it's students skills needed to get a job in the food service industry while they prepare Healthy Helpings, individually trayed meals delivered to older adults.

The CCK students are preparing a Healthy Helpings meal of Curry Chicken with roasted sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower and pumpkin spiced muffin. The recipes are created by the GCFD to be homemade from scratch, nutritious meals portioned appropriately for older adults. The food is prepared in large batches and then placed into eco-friendly trays as individual servings. The meals are then sealed and frozen at the GCFD before being packaged into 7 meal variety packs that are delivered to older adults around the Chicago community.
