I think Annabelle has proven to have a pretty good eye...she probably got a hunch that Simone and Amanda's relationship is more than friendship through all the photos of the two of them together, she also noticed Amanda's necklace in the photos as well and saw that it was the same one that Simone was wearing.

She saw a picture of Amanda and saw that, that is the cross Simone never takes off. As for Annabelle saying she was intrigued I think she just liked Simone from the beginning.

I think it was exactly meant not to be about the photos thereafter this scene. The question worked because they're in a Catholic school. So Annabelle asks this general question assuming Simone is religious b/c of wearing the cross, when in fact the cross has no correlation with religion at all.

simone touches the cross with fever through out the movie. if you watch close with intent youd pick up her body language, especially with annabelle.

it's true that she recognized the cros in all the pictures but at the moment that she asked her "If Mother Emaculada told you to take this cross off, would you?" she hadn't yet seen all the pictures

Ok, i thought of a few things that i think should be different in this movie (NB! This is only my opinion),

In the middle of the movie, Annabelle had to wear the rosery, and when she wasn't in one lesson, Simone asked her "Why aren't you wearing your rosery?" and she asked "If Mother Emaculada told you to take this cross off, would you?" How did she now exactly that it was Simones weakest point.. (sorry 'bout my english), and when she said, Maybe i'm intrigued, how did she know simone's gay?
