This was the maiden voyage of my recently overhauled Marx 333. As you can see, Dumbo has been fitted with a set of (Elephant Ears) otherwise known as smoke deflectors. This 333 was made in 1955...., is a smoker with double reduction gears and is equipped with one stock rubber traction tire. I have yet to aquire the correct tender for this engine. The tender I used is a modern Lionel whistle tender stamped 'Made In Michigan,' no visible part number. 333's are very parsnickety about their tenders and all my post-war Marx tenders caused it to derail. It runs great with the Lionel. Perhaps it doesn't know it's pulling Lionel cars due to the blinders and I ain't tellin! LOL
As this was it's first run after being overhauled, I only ran 5 cars and a tender, until she breaks in. You might notice that she speeds up on her own towards the second half of the film. I believe something worked it'self loose, in a good way.
When I got her, she was rather bound up and was in need of cleaning, lubrication, and new brushes.
After her first run, I placed my hand on top of the shell to see if she was running hot, she was not. This is always a good way to test all your old trains for engine troubles.
Music is from an old Xavier Cugat 78 played on my turntable. Enjoy!

  • @marxtoynut Many thanks, ED

  • Absolutely wonderful loco Chuck !!! Her tender will be our secret until you find the correct match... She does run beautifully, and it was cool to watch her break in run....Amazing what a little oil and elbow grease will do.... Always a very enjoyable vid my friend !!!!

  • @puttrainguy Dan, I won't tell her if you won't. It's always a good feeling to salvage a great old train and then watch her running down the rails.

  • very nice :)

  • Chuck, I always enjoy looking for the strange things on your layout. I see a couple of animated figures under the overhead loop who seem to be playing tennis and I'm completely sober this time.
