Space Griffon was one of the first games to release for the Playstation, it was released at the end of the year in 1995.
By todays standards its not a great game, but in 95 this game had a lot to offer.

The voice acting isn't bad but the simple mouth movements that don't sync with words will seem cheesy, but for a 95' release you could argue "atleast it had voice acting" which some games released today still do not have. The graphics aren't great, but the textures are solid the game maintains a decent anime feel. My only gripe with the controls is the aiming. You have to hold down triangle and aim with the d-pad, so while aiming you are unable to move, unless you're using the L1/R1 buttons to strafe left and right, but its makes it much harder to aim. I overlook the aiming and deal with it because at the time, there were no analog sticks on the playstation controllers. If you could aim with the right analog, the controls would actually be really good, but the holding triangle makes combat much harder and frustrating than it needs to be.

The story is not too bad, and when I was younger this was one of my favorite games. The game made you feel like you were in an robot themed anime. Your team is constantly keeping in touch with you, keeping the story fresh. There were a lot of great ideas for a mech game in Space Griffon, its really just overshadowed by the flaws of it being an early playstation release. You can switch between 3 different forms, each having different balance in speed, defense, and turning. There are items and weapons to find, aswell as passcodes and card keys which allow you to unlock doors to lead you further on in the many large levels of Hamlet. The game starts slow, but then the storyline starts to pick up and you will find yourself a lot more interested in finishing the game as events unfold with you and your team. The game is rare to find these days, but if you can get your hands on a copy it is worth a look for any fans of mech simulation games, considering how cheap you should find it you can't regret the money you'll spend on it.

  • is this recorded from a rom or is it recorded from the genuine article? i fucking love this game! spent a whole day trying to remember the name to it. now that i know. is there a rom for it??

  • This was recorded using a real copy of the game, but I used an emulator to run it on. It was before I had a capture card.

  • do you get more weapons? plzzzzz tell me

  • There are a variety of weapons scattered around, but you need to be sparing with them because they don't respawn. Use the lasers on anything that can be destroyed easily so you can save your powerful stuff for boss battles and other mechs that are harder.

  • do you destroy the monster and do you get to go down to level 5

  • Yes, you get to visit all the levels eventually as the story goes on. Also, you fight the monster a few times and I believe it is also the final battle that you have to finish it off.
