@wboquist King David of Scotland brought French Tironesian monks across to neighbouring Kelso Abbey supposedly to make it harder for Durham to claim superiority over them. Likewise French monks were brought to Jedburgh from Baeuvais (spelling). I don't have any knowledge about the abbeys actually being built by the French though. I think the Scots were perfectly capable!

@wboquist No, I am not sure.

@BillDFC I can't swear to it, but I believe all of the masonry was executed by Scottish masons. I visited it many years ago (1987, I think), and I bought a book about it at the time. I think I would remember if I had read that it was not Scots, but French masons who built it. Do you know for certain that French masons were working in Scotland at the time the abbey was built?

@wboquist Did French masons not build the abbey?

Did you honestly watch this clip expecting to hear a Ghost!?
I ask you...

There's no mason like a Scottish mason! Great stuff!
-
I didn't hear any bells.
Of course it is, but you still watched it didn't you!
