I can't believe some people think that Cloverfield ripped this off because this was released three days beforehand...

after watching this I stumbled across j j abrams on ted talking about a mystey boxes and about 12 minutes in he talks about movies like this and makes a great point. well worth watching

Because ripoffs get them money. Even if the movies suck and aren't original, people in video stores will snort at things like "Transmorphers" and rent/buy it out of amusement
-
i can of like it. But Cloverfield is bettter. Those two monster should have a match up to see which one is better.

@cometandcupids They are far more original than those they derive from. You don't know enough about film to realize it, but it's blatantly true.
-
so in the film Monster they stole the Cloverfield roar, but they reverced it: Asylum's owner should die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
How come these guys don't make original films?
-
They were probably happy when they say the trailer because they knew they didn't need to waste much money on anything besides shaking a camera

Immitation is flattery.

so what. cloverfields roar is exactly like godzillas but lower.

I liked it, too, because the footage from the video camera with the "damaged" tapes look realistic.
Back in the "golden age" of schlock grindhouse-style Sci-Fi, small budget studios did this all the time, and some of those obvious rip-offs have become today, "schlock classics" in their own right. A film like "Monster" could never diminish the genius of "Cloverfield", Thanks to Matt Reeves stunning direction and JJ Abrams imagination. So yeah, I'll probably rent "Monster" and enjoy whatever there is to enjoy about it, but it's "Cloverfield" that I have now seen 4 times, and will buy the DVD!

Well, you have your opinion, but Asylum is known for their poor production and blatant rip-offs. It's worse than a Sci-Fi channel original (and those are pretty bad!). lol
