@Incongruent This was from and for their wallets as well. Don't always act and think like, say, 50s years ago all was made for passion and heart and money and mainstream commercial approach did not exist. This kind of music was particularly conceived for Ads and films, these composers where just paid (as any other employee) to compose standard and catchy themes for movies and commercials - something which does not require much heart or creativity if you're trained to.

@jetleeming I would refute that. Bands like Radiohead and Arcade Fire have always put their air before their bottom line :)

Does anyone know where I can find this video and all the concert ?

Les Baxter has endless finesse which I never really heard in any other musician/composer. But making music has changed, it has become less direct, less from the heart because people nowadays usually produce music with computers. This does not mean the music of the likes of let's say Flying Lotus or Slugabed is not to be considered craftsmanship, you just can't compare the arts. In the end I'll always return to Baxter and many other musicians from ' the old days' .

go look underground!

Very well put together.

This was a hugh hit for several, including Roger Williams in the 1950's. Sold in the millions, and was on the Hit Parade for a lengthy period of time. Was classified as "popular music" of that era.

Les Baxter was known for Exotica which is Bachelor Pad music. The kind of music that a father would listen to while smoking his pipe wearing his smoking jacket.
